Excellent Ways To Celebrate This Year’s Women’s Equality Day

August 26 is Equality Day and this year marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. This Women’s Equality Day will also observe the announcement of the first Black and South Asian American female Vice Presential candidate, Kamala Harris. Jane Walker by Johnnie Walker, the first-ever female iteration of the iconic Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky is continuing their support in women’s progress by teaming up with non-profit organization Monumental Women. Their mission is to honor the women who paved the way by breaking the bronze ceiling and supporting in public spaces across the country. As a centerpiece to the nation’s celebration of this centennial, Monumental Women will unveil the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument in New York’s Central Park on Equality Day. It will honor the achievements of the past and continued fight for women’s equality for the future. It will also mark Central Park’s first monument depicting real women in its 167-year history. The monument, which was a seven-year effort, will feature suffragists Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony and Elisabeth Cady Staton.

Jane Walker is also partnering with founder and CEO of Phenomenal Woman, Meena Harris, to offer a limited-edition tee shirt supporting Monumental Women’s efforts. As she noted, “It is important to remember that, while 2020 marks 100 years of women’s suffrage, it’s not the centennial of suffrage for all. For nearly half a century more, Black women still lacked protections to access the ballot box, even though Black women were central figures in the passage of the 19th Amendment.”

Jane Walker will also support the Monumental Women Toolkit, a resource for other communities to follow the Monumental Women model of encouraging diversity in public spaces, the Ida B. Wells Memorial Foundation in Chicago, and party with an IGTV special called, A Toast to Equality Day on 8/26 @ 5pm ET. with actress/activist Sophia Bush and Phenomenal founder Meena Harris featuring the Cool Jane cocktail listed below. Happy Equality Day!
