How To Empower Women On Women’s Equality Day And Beyond

Here’s How Celebrate Women’s Equality Day Today And Everyday

Women’s Equality Day is celebrated annually on August 26 to recognize American women’s advancements towards equality with men. It also observes the ratification of the nineteenth amendment of the US constitution, guaranteeing American women their right to vote. However, the discussion on equality should go beyond the holiday, or the expected limited-run apparel- closing the economic gender gap requires action at a national as well as international level. Men should understand gender equality is about equal opportunities for women rather than men relinquishing power. Let’s face it, when women are doing well, the whole family does well, and so does the economy, which we call a win-win situation.

One company that continues to strengthen women-owned businesses is Johnnie Walker. After a year where women have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, their efforts help to counter the progress lost by women in the workforce, specifically in the hospitality industry which involves a large percentage of women.

For Women’s Equality Day, through the IFundWomen & Jane Walker by Johnnie Walker ‘First Women’ Grant Program, Johnnie Walker selected five women in the hospitality industry to be awarded $10K for their business and a one-year Annual Coaching Membership from IFundWomen. They include Birch Road Cellar, the first BYOB member club in the U.S. to be owned 100% by women, Make It Mariko , an all-woman of color event planning company committed to uplifting people of color in the hospitality & events industry, Harvest & Revel, a women led, minority owned catering company using natural, organic, ingredients sourced intentionally from nearby farms and vendors, Golightly, the first vacation rental and home-sharing platform for women, and Allora Pasta Co., a woman-owned company bringing people and communities together through food with live and virtual workshops and dinner parties.

So, here’s to women who speak up, step up, and rise up! To join the Women’s Equality Day party, we are sharing two cocktails by trailblazing mixologists, Julie Reiner, and Claire Sprouse. Cheers!
