Rizzoli Opens New Flagship Bookstore
If you were a fan of the Rizzoli six-story townhouse that was located on 57th street and devastated when it closed its doors in April 2014, Good News: Rizzoli bookstore is back! A new flagship bookstore has opened at 1133 Broadway in the heart of New York City’s NoMad district. Many of the classic fixtures from 57th street location have been preserved and have been re-introduced, including the cherry wood bookcases and grand brass and iron chandeliers. The opening of Rizzoli’s new flagship is great news for book lovers who have noticed an alarming rate of store closures in the past few years. “For more than 50 years, the Rizzoli bookstore has attracted discerning patrons from around the globe and provided beautifully produced volumes on art, design, interiors, fashion, as well as literature, and important non-fiction books,” noted Laura Donnini, CEO of RCS Libri, of the Milan based RCS MediaGroup. “We believe we have found the perfect location for our new flagship bookstore and we look forward to joining this vibrant community of innovative thinkers. We expect this customer — both New York-based, and visiting from all points national and international — to embrace the 21st century version of their favorite bookstore.” The 5,000 square foot space is located on the ground floor level of the historic St. James Building, dating back to the early 19th century. The Rizzoli flagship features a glass façade that showcases eighteen-foot ceilings, and a skylight. Wallpaper designed exclusively for the Rizzoli flagship was custom-made by Cole & Son. The design features motifs of Italian cities floating in the clouds on the ceiling, with hot air balloons, Zodiac figures and the classic Fornasetti collage of newspaper fragments decorated with butterflies. Rizzoli bookstore will be open seven days a week.
