The Best Cocktail To Embrace The Colder Winter Weather
January 11 marks National Hot Toddy Day, the celebration of the delicious drink made with honey, lemon, hot water and the sprit of your choice. It is the perfect cocktail to cozy up with friends this winter, and a natural remedy for soothing the common cold. We have listed a few hot toddy recipes that will certainly bring joy to a wintry day. Whether that involves an evening curled up on the couch, at a cozy dig with a working fireplace, or enjoying the outdoors at a warm bonfire. One thing’s for sure: a hot toddy will warm yourself both inside and out these endless days of winter.
Basil Hayden’s® Dark Rye Toddy

Ingredients:
• 1 1/2 parts Basil Hayden’s® Dark Rye
• 3/4 part Honey Simple Syrup*
• 1/4 part Lemon Juice
• 7 parts Hot Water
• Cinnamon Stick
• Star Anise
• 3 Allspice Berries
• Candied ginger
Method:
Heat 7 parts of water over stove in a pot. Once water is hot, add remaining ingredients into pot and stir into flavors are absorbed. Strain mixture into a glass mug and garnish with candied ginger.
* Honey Simple Syrup Recipe: Combine equal parts honey and equal parts water over heat until dissolved.
Knob Creek® Hot Toddy
Ingredients:
• 1 ½ oz Knob Creek® Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
• Orange Slice
• Lemon wedge
• 3 – 5 whole cloves
• Hot water
• Dollop of honey
Method:
In a pre-warmed coffee mug, muddle cloves first then orange and lemon. Add Knob Creek and top with hot water. Add as much honey as you like. Stir with a cinnamon stick.
Laphroaig® Feast Toddy
Ingredients:
• 1 part Laphroaig® 10-Year Old
• ½ part DeKuyper Mixologist Series Ginger
• 3 parts Hot Apple Cider
Method:
Build in a pre- heated coffee mug. Garnish with a lemon wedge and a dash of fresh ground cinnamon.
Green Tea Toddy
Ingredients:
• 6 oz. Sparkling Ice Crisp Apple
• 1 ½ oz. whisky or apple brandy
• 1 teaspoon honey
• Cinnamon stick, allspice cloves, and apple slices for garnish
Method:
Coat the bottom of a glass coffee cup with honey. Add whisky or brandy. Heat Sparkling Ice Crisp Apple in a small sauce pot. Pour hot Crisp Apple Sparkling Ice into glass. Stir to combine ingredients. Garnish with cinnamon stick, allspice cloves, and apple slices.
Aberlour Hot Toddy
Ingredients :
- 1.5 oz Aberlour 12YO
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 0.5 oz lemon juice
- 1 cup hot water
Method:
Combine all ingredients into the bottom of a warmed mug. Optional lemon wedge or cinnamon stick for garnish.
Powers Hot Honey Whiskey
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Powers Irish Whiskey
- ½ oz. lemon juice
- 2 tsp honey
- 4 oz. hot water
Method:
In a mug add honey, hot water, Powers and lemon juice stirring until combined. Serve warm, garnished with a cinnamon stick and lemon round (optional) with cloves.
