Because World Whisky Day Is Quickly Approaching
The logical way to celebrate this holiday is to imbibe your favorite variety of whiskies. Nowadays, single malts rule the shelves in the liquor store making a decision on selecting the right spirit complex. When any old bottle will not do, we turn to coveted Scotch whisky brand BenRiach for guidance.
Known for its rich heritage, the Speyside distillery recently hosted an intimate get-together. As we cozied up at Winnie’s Jazz Bar inside The Refinery Hotel, we sampled unique flavorings of the brand’s current offerings.
Spirits including the 10 Year-Old, the 25 year old and the 10 Year Curiositas wowed us with their peaty expressions and delicious smoky sweet notes. However, it was the BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2 Classic (retailing at $95) that got us extremely excited. This limited release is like sampling the Malt Whisky straight from the cask. The full flavors of the distilled spirit and from the wood remain, leaving a taste of creamy and delicate aromas of vanilla, tropical fruits and sweet barley. - .75 oz of Lemon
- 5-6 mint leaves as garnish
- 2 oz of BenRiach Curiositas
- .75 oz of Porter Reduction
- 1 quart of Porter Beer
- 1 pint of Honey
- 4 grams of Maldon salt
- the zest of 1 orange
Combine the following in a shaker tin: BenRiach Curiositas, Porter Reduction, and Lemon.
Combine in a pot: Porter Beer, Honey, Maldon Salt, Orange.
Allow to rest at medium heat for 45 minutes stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool. No need to muddle because you’re going to give this one a nice hard shake. Strain it over some fresh ice in a rocks glass and serve with a hearty sprig of mint.
