This Spirit Also Answers The Question: Is Whiskey Better Than Wine
Irish Whiskey also described as ‘water of life’ is having a new moment, with existing distilleries and new ones opening. They tend to have a lighter, smoother, and sweeter flavor profile than what you usually get in scotches or bourbons making this spirit welcoming. Knappogue Castle Irish Whiskey, named after a beautiful 15th century castle that stands in County Clare Ireland is the perfect example of why people are falling back in love with this spirit.
It manages to capture a great deal of flavor and complexity and offer it in a light and pleasant manner. Their single malt is created from malted barley triple distilled a batch at a time, in copper pot stills and aged in what was once bourbon oak casks. The end result: Delicious. To kick off March festivities including St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrated with Knappague Castle Irish Whiskey at an intimate gathering at East Village’s latest hotspot, Mister Paradise. In addition to enjoying craft cocktails infused with their 12-year old single malt, guests had the opportunity to sample two limited release expressions: One finished in Pinchon Baron and the other in Marsala wine casks. Now the question, Is Whiskey better than wine? Let’s just say, Whiskey and Wine are quite fine!
The Knappogue Castle Château Pichon Baron was matured in bourbon barrels for a minimum of 12 years, and then further aged in casks from the Bordeaux winery. The nose is soft and fruity, with notes of strawberry and hints of red berry ending the palate with traces of vanilla, spice and dry oak.
Knappogue Marsala Cask is also matured in bourbon barrels for a minimum of 12 years, and then further aged in cases from the Marsala Winery. It is made exclusively from malted barley, distilled in copper pot stills and bottles at 92 proof. The nose on this expression is a blend of fruit, mocha and vanilla. The palate delivers juicy, savory and a light taste ending with hints of fruit and dry oak. Enjoy Knappogue Castle’s Single Malt Irish Whiskey neat, on the rocks, or in one of these cocktails listed.
