Here Are Some Delicious Ways To Celebrate A Virtual Cinco de Mayo This Year
Although we are unable the celebrate the day fueled by margaritas, and plenty of tacos with friends, we can certainly raise a glass virtually for the occasion. While we are under stay at home orders, we wanted to share some fun ways some spirits brands will safely observe the heritage of Mexico. From ordering crafted cocktails via a Margarita Messenger, to winning a once-in-a-lifetime Cinco de Mayo experience, here are some delicious ways to safely celebrate a virtual Cinco de Mayo. Tequila Don Julio
Tequila Don Julio is shaking things up with IT’S CINCO SOMEWHERE, a first-of-its-kind virtual Cinco de Mayo that helps people celebrate safely at home while giving back. The charity-focused program offers the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime Cinco de Mayo experience with celebrities and top bartenders including James Harden, Erin Andrews, Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta and Lil Jon by making a donation to the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation. The spirit company has already funded $200,000 to the Foundation and will donate an additional $500,000 by Cinco de Mayo. Below are a few cocktails featuring Tequila Don Julio for you to try that the celebs will be mixing as well.
Colibrí Rubi Tea

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Tequila Don Julio Blanco
- 2 oz. Hibiscus Tea
- 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
- 1/4 oz. Simple Syrup
- Strawberry Halves for Garnish Preparation
Method
Combine Tequila Don Julio Blanco, hibiscus tea, lime juice and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake gently. Next, strain contents into a Collins glass over fresh ice and garnish with half a strawberry.
Rosa Primavera

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz. Tequila Don Julio Reposado
- 1 oz. Coconut Cream
- 3/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 Muddled Strawberry
- Strawberry for Garnish Preparation
Method:
Muddle a strawberry in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Next, add Tequila Don Julio Reposado, coconut cream and fresh lemon juice into the cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Then, strain contents into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish with a strawberry.
Sparkling Margarita

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz. Tequila Don Julio Blanco
- 1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
- 1/2 oz. Agave
- Top with Sparkling Wine
- Garnish with a Lemon Twist (optional)
Method:
Combine Tequila Don Julio Blanco, fresh lime juice and agave syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain contents into a rocks glass over fresh ice and top with sparkling wine. Garnish with a lemon twist.
Lemonada

Ingredients
- 1 1/2oz. Tequila Don Julio Blanco
- 3 oz. Cold water
- 3/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice (or 1 whole lemon)
- 8- 10 fresh mint leaves
- 2 Tsp. Sugar
- 10-15 Ice cubes
Method
With a knife roughly remove all the skin and white pith from the lemon add to the blender. Add the mint and sugar and pulse a few times until the mint leaves are well chopped. Next, add the Don Julio Blanco, cold water and rose water and pulse again to mix. (Taste and add more sugar if necessary.) Add the ice cubes and pulse a few more times to break up the ice cubes and then process until the whole cocktail gets slushy. Pour into your favorite glass and garnish with a fresh mint sprig and enjoy!
Tanteo Tequila
To help with your bartender skills, Tanteo Tequila has teamed up with The Wayland and NYC-based cocktail caterer Cocktails in Motion for Party in Place an all-inclusive delivery margarita party package that will benefit hospitality workers via The Lee Initiative. Virtual Mexican Standoff
The popular bartending challenge has gone virtual on the Tanteo website. Virtual Mexican Standoff involves eight top bartenders from around the country who have each been compensated with a $250 shift pay to craft a cocktail with a secret ingredient, Tanteo Tequilas and Twisted Alchemy juices provided. Participating bartenders include Allison Torres (Refinery Rooftop, NY), Christian Orlando (The Stand, NY), Kat Parsons (American Oak, Alameda, CA), Randy Thais (Bungalow, Huntington Beach, CA), Lee Baker (Star Bar and Jurassic Tiki, CO), Lee Zaremba (Lazy Bird, IL), Angela Dugan (Kapow Noodle Bar, FL) and Colleen “Coco” Kelley (Vidorra, Dallas, TX). Camarena Tequila
To help you mix the perfect libations while staying at home, Camarena Tequila created some Cinco de Quarantine Cocktails from their portfolio of tequilas that are easy to make for your virtual party.
Camarena Margarita
Ingredients:
- 2 parts Camarena Silver
- .75 parts Simple Syrup/Agave Nectar
- .75 parts Lime Juice
- .5 parts Triple Sec
Method:
Add ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Camarena Paloma
Ingredients:
- 2 parts Camarena Silver
- 4 parts Grapefruit Soda
- .5 parts Lime Juice
- Pinch of salt
Method:
Add ingredients into a Collins glass filled with ice and stir together to combine. Garnish with a lime wheel and a sprig of mint.
