A Q & A With swimwear designer, Nager by Nic Hyl during her showcase event

I know during this past holiday season most of us were thinking about ugly sweater parties, long lines and delayed UPS packages. But just for a second close your eyes and think: Beach…Sun…. Relax.

Although it is not exactly the time for a swimsuit, we should realize that swimsuit season is right around the corner. I mean Resort/Cruise 2015 is quickly approaching! So as much as I like the rest of you would like to think it is never coming let’s be real and remember that these over sized sweaters, hoodies, and boots will soon become a bathing suit, sarong and flip-flops. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Nager by Nic Hyl showcase event where I had the opportunity to meet the designer Nic Hyl, of this amazing collection. Like most New Yorkers, I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off and could only stay for a flash but for the short period I was there I realized I needed to talk to the individual who created this cross back one piece that had my jaw hit the floor. I would have taken the body that was in it too but I digress. So lucky Nic was able to make some time to chat about all things swimwear with me:

How many swimsuits should one person own?

Nic Hyl: As you would guess, A LOT or the illusion of a lot. For Nic, having 2-3 basics bottoms and mix and match tops is a great way to always have a fresh new look for beach or poolside. If you are a one-piece kind of gal 2-3 with accessories have the same effect and look.

How should one select a swimsuit?

NH: SMOOTH… your suit should sit smooth on your skin making it look and feel like second skin. No lumps or bumps… if you have to keep adjusting and tweaking your suit it might not be the right one for you. Keep your options open when looking for bathing suits.

How do you care for a swimsuit?

NH: Wash with cold water and swimsuit wash or lingerie wash and line dry. Regular detergent breaks down the fibers in a suit. If you love it do what is right and be kind to your suit.

I also inquired to Nic where swimwear was going for her and the industry. She mentioned that it is moving into ready to wear. A beach sarong is now your dinner dress. The Caftan is what you wear to the market during lunch. Swimwear is becoming a piece of clothing to be worn all day and not just for the pool or beach.

You are now ready for the pool/beach season and pick a Nager by Nic Hyl suit with confidence.
