Rizzoli Opens New Flagship Bookstore
/in Art + Culture/by Stephanie RedheadIf you were a fan of the Rizzoli six-story townhouse that was located on 57th street and devastated when it closed its doors in April 2014, Good News: Rizzoli bookstore is back! A new flagship bookstore has opened at 1133 Broadway in the heart of New York City’s NoMad district. Many of the classic fixtures from 57th street location have been preserved and have been re-introduced, including the cherry wood bookcases and grand brass and iron chandeliers. The opening of Rizzoli’s new flagship is great news for book lovers who have noticed an alarming rate of store closures in the past few years. “For more than 50 years, the Rizzoli bookstore has attracted discerning patrons from around the globe and provided beautifully produced volumes on art, design, interiors, fashion, as well as literature, and important non-fiction books,” noted Laura Donnini, CEO of RCS Libri, of the Milan based RCS MediaGroup. “We believe we have found the perfect location for our new flagship bookstore and we look forward to joining this vibrant community of innovative thinkers. We expect this customer — both New York-based, and visiting from all points national and international — to embrace the 21st century version of their favorite bookstore.” The 5,000 square foot space is located on the ground floor level of the historic St. James Building, dating back to the early 19th century. The Rizzoli flagship features a glass façade that showcases eighteen-foot ceilings, and a skylight. Wallpaper designed exclusively for the Rizzoli flagship was custom-made by Cole & Son. The design features motifs of Italian cities floating in the clouds on the ceiling, with hot air balloons, Zodiac figures and the classic Fornasetti collage of newspaper fragments decorated with butterflies. Rizzoli bookstore will be open seven days a week.

/in Art + Culture/by Stephanie Redhead
Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, also known as DIFFA, has grown significantly over the years that the 2015 DIFFA Dining By Design New York was held at Pier 92. Spanning over 30,000 square feet DIFFA’s new location, which coincides with the Architectural Digest Home Design Show at Pier 94 was filled with stunning dining vignettes by the industry’s celebrated designers and talent. The dining installations were extravagant, striking and imaginative yet inspired and delighted guests and helped to raise over $750,000 during the 5-day event. This year’s theme, “All Together Now”, “Together all for DIFFA” integrated the leaders in the industry and the power of design. The affair kicked off with Cocktails By Design, an evening where designers and guests schmoozed and explored the installations and their inspiration while sampling delectable treats from some of New York City’s top restaurants including Indochine and STK and sipped cocktails fashioned by Oster Bay and Patrón Tequila. The closing event featured the DINING BY DESIGN GALA, where guests were invited to take a seat at the table and dine amongst the impressive installations. This year’s list of designers included Ralph Lauren, Hermes, Fendi Casa, Kitty Hawks for Spin Ceramics, and Stacy Garcia.
