How Are You Celebrating National Waffle Day?
Breakfast is usually a meal eaten on the fly- it’s often a granola bar consumed on my way to the Subway or a quick bite at an early morning shoot. So when I have the opportunity to sit down and have a proper breakfast, it’s a great day. Waffles are my favorite breakfast staple that I have finally learned to master and is always a crowd pleaser.
While making them at home, my unique take is finding a waffle mix that does not use artificial ingredients or preservatives. Simple Mills offers a gluten-free Pancake & Waffle Mix highlighting almond flour and organic coconut flour in addition to other natural ingredients.
Outside of the home, thankfully NYC is home to some of the most delectable locales for this square staple. Two establishments come to mind to upgrade your waffle game.
Sweet Chick. The Brooklyn favorite is also open on the Lower East Side and in Los Angeles. Order the signature Chicken and Waffles dish with Bacon-Cheddar, Rosemary-Mushroom or Spiced Pecan.
Clinton Hall. South Street Seaport’s new spot is has an incredible waffle list. Any menu that lists “WTF Waffles “ is a sure sign of a winner. Not only are the waffles colossal in size, they are definitely Insta-worthy.
Dishes include S’mores, waffles covered in vanilla ice cream, crushed graham crackers, whipped cream and marshmallows, Red Velvet, which features raspberry sauce, cream cheese whipped cream and vanilla ice cream, or Carnival, that highlights cinnamon waffles, cotton candy, caramel sauce and hot fudge. So worth it!
