Today Is RyeDay ! Let’s Toast Every Friday the 13th With These Whiskey Cocktails
Need a reason to celebrate? Well, you’re in luck. This Friday the 13 also marks RyeDay, a celebration that originally began in 2016 as a global enthusiasm for Maryland Rye Whiskey. Maryland was once a whiskey distilling powerhouse during pre-Prohibition, most of it rye, made in a distinctive style that was recognized. It involved a more delicate and sweeter characteristic with less spice and a supple, almost buttery palate.
However, the distilleries, and the style disappeared after World War II. Since no one can really agree on what Maryland rye is, we just love the idea of reviving the whiskey category by celebrating all things rye every Friday the 13th. We have listed 9 whiskey cocktails to help you honor RyeDay involving expressions that feature rye whiskey in stirred slow and low with raw honey, navel oranges, rock candy and angostura bitters, to whiskey aged in charred oak barrels, and rye whiskey encompassing spice and tobacco as dominant notes. Cheers!
