When Fashion Loves Art- H&M Opens Museum Inspired Store On Fifth Avenue

Swedish retailer H&M continues to wow the New York fashion crowd by opening a museum-inspired flagship store highlighting a remarkable collaboration with American artist Jeff Koons this summer. The 57,000 square foot space located at 589 Fifth Avenue at 48th street scheduled for a July 17th unveiling boasts six floors with a five-story atrium and 26′ x 20′ LED screen. Decorated with green and white marble tiles, herringbone wood work and equipped with concierge service will create a unique H&M experience on Fifth Avenue.

The store opening will coincide with the Whitney Museum of American Art’s “Jeff Koons: A Retrospective” Exhibit on June 27th– October 19th in which H&M sponsors. The retrospective will be Koon’s first major museum presentation in New York, and will also be the last exhibition before the Museum opens in the Meatpacking District in 2015. Jeff Koons created a limited edition Balloon Dog leather handbag that will be sold at the opening of 589 Fifth Avenue and select stores across the United States including Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas and online at hm.com. Limited quantities will also be sold at the Whitney during the Retrospective. “The partnership with H&M was really exciting for me and the chance to showcase one of my most popular works to a new generation of people was inspiring. H&M delivers great fashion season after season and it’s nice to see my work at their new store,” noted Jeff Koons. For the opening, the Yellow Balloon Dog will be blown up to cover the store’s windows with the message “Fashion Loves Art” written across the storefront facade.
