Contemporary fine jewelry artist Cindy Cho and actress/philanthropist Sarah Jessica Parker co-designed an extraordinary jewelry piece to be auctioned at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in October benefitting the New York City Ballet. The “Ballerina Butterfly” brooch, the 6thdesign from the Black Label Masterpiece Butterfly Collection was inspired by the poise and elegance of the ballet. It is made of titanium and 18-karat gold body, and features a cushion-cut brown diamond weighing 26.27 carats, three rough brown diamond slices weighing 47.71 carats, and three pieces of conch pearls weighing 7.25 carats, surrounded by 4,698 diamonds en mass weighing 98.09 carats. The Ballerina Butterfly brooch was completed over the course of two years combining Chao’s workmanship with Parker’s insightfulness on style and design. The two met in 2011 during Chao’s Masterpiece Exhibition in Beijing. “I have had the great pleasure of knowing Cindy and her work for several years, and it has been an incredibly special experience to collaborate with her,” articulates Parker, “I am so pleased to partner with her on this project, which benefits the wonderful work of the New York City Ballet, an organization that is close to my heart.”

The Ballerina Butterfly brooch will be unveiled July 7-10 during Paris Haute Couture Week. It will then travel throughout Asia and make an appearance in New York on September 23rd at the New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala, where Chao and Parker will serve as co-chairs and then arrive Hong Kong in October, prior to the auction.
