Marimekko for Target Is The Retailer’s latest Designer Collaboration
Finnish design house Marimekko is bringing its art of prints and colors to retailer/ pioneer of designer collaborations Target a limited-edition collection launching in stores and online starting April 17. Marimekko For Target features over 200 items of bold prints and lively colors in multiple categories including women and girls apparel, home and outdoor décor, as well as beach staples. Many items are priced under $50 with a few exceptions including a Kukkatori Print bicycle ($299), and a Bocce set ($99). The partnership should be a hit for the two iconic brands and just in time for the spring/summer season when customers will bask in the sunshine after hibernating indoors for many months. “When it comes to our partnerships, we travel far and wide to find designers and brands we think our guests will love,” noted Julie Guggemos, senior vice president, product design and development, Target. “For our spring collaboration, that brought us all the way to Finland! We’ve had our eye on Marimekko for quite some time, and can’t wait for guests to have a chance to shop this limited-edition collection in just a few short weeks.”
Established in 1951, the brand became extremely popular in the sixties as Jacqueline Kennedy donned a dress in one of its prints on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Marimekko continued over the years its mission of bringing joy to everyday life incoporating iconic prints into a signature collection of fashion and home pieces. Marimekko’s past collaborations include specialty retailer Banana Republic and beauty brand Aesop.
