Museum of the City of New York Holds Annual Winter Thaw

The City Museum’s Young Members Circle hosted the Fourth Annual Winter Thaw Friday night at the Museum Of the City New York on Fifth Avenue. The annual soiree celebrates the end of winter while raising funds for the City Museum’s exhibitions and learning platforms. Young professionals enjoyed cocktails and nibbles while viewing the museum’s latest exhibit, City As Canvas: Graffiti Art from the Martin Wong Collection. The showcase, donated by Wong features artwork of graffiti writers often encompassing an entire side of New York City Subway trains. Noted as an important chapter in street art movement from the early 1970’s-1980, the graffiti writers helped to push graffiti art from the subway system to above ground and more widespread.
