The Gerber Group is making its first arrival far downtown with the opening of Mr. Purple, a new bar/restaurant located on 15th floor of Hotel Indigo in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The Gerber Group has been known to create unique venues including The Roof at Viceroy, Irvington and Whiskey Blue in New York City, The Living Room and Wet in Ft. Lauderdale, and Whiskey Park and Whiskey Blue in Atlanta. This latest venture has definitely captured our attention, along with the model and fashion crowd with jaw-dropping views of downtown Manhattan. The name, Mr. Purple, comes from David Wikie, better known as Adam “Mr. Purple”, a Lower East Side environmentalist and activist, known for his chosen hue of clothing. The bar has a loft-like feel inside and features two roof deck terraces fully equipped with a swimming pool and bar. Once the weather warms up, the outdoor space is sure to be a popular hangout scene. In the meantime, this trendy spot fits in with the recent transformation of the neighborhood that has now become a hub of nightlife, music, art galleries, high-end boutiques, restaurants and hotels. The menu is unfussy and incorporates some of the local businesses including Corned Beef from 2nd Avenue Deli, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, and gelato from iL laboratorio del gelato. The bar features specialty cocktails like the Mr. Purple served punch style, with casamigos reposado tequila, cranberry liqueur, allspice dram, apple and lemon, and beer from Brooklyn and The Bronx. In the mornings, Mr. Purple serves treats on the 14th floor lobby level such as pastries from Balthazar, Irving Farm Coffee and Liquiteria cold-pressed juices.
