Los Angeles- based artist KESH has made her New York City debut with the opening of her latest solo-exhibition, “LJUS2” at the Catherine Ahnell Gallery. To celebrate, an opening reception was held Thursday evening at the gallery located on 66 Grand Street. Since her graphic black & white capsule collection with retailer American Apparel made a splash back in 2013, and was worn by Cara Delevigne, Jourdan Dunn and Wiz Khalifa, she is definitely an artist to watch and follow. Thursday night’s guest list included fans from the fashion and art world including Jeanette Hayes, Tali Lennox, Ty Hunter, Fiona Byrne, and Gigi Burris. “LJUS2” an exhibition of self-portraits and a concept pop-up shop featuring works that experiment with lighting techniques partnered with her signature use of bold shapes and digital graphics.
KESH spent a month-long residency at the gallery prior to the opening- an approach established by Catherine Ahnell with the goal of creating an overall unique experience for the artist in presenting their creation. In addition, this method provides art collectors and the media a greater understanding of the artists’ work and process. KESH had prior experience since she lived and slept for 5 days at the Visual Artists Group of Los Angeles for her exhibit, Flight: RS279. She encouraged participation through her social media audience to view her process during her stay. “LJUS2” is now open to the public for four weeks and will close on Sunday, February 14.
