J.Crew Presents Fall 2016 Collection at NYFW
J.Crew presented men and women together for Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week: The Shows. The collection marks Somsack Sikhounmuong’s first in his new position as head of women’s design from being head of design for Madewell.
The men’s collection was inspired by a 1930s photograph of a gentleman wearing a refined topcoat and sneakers, yet he looks present day. As a result, fall is a mash-up of the classics and making them modern by enriching proportions, textures and fabrics. Thus, creating a high-low look and how our guy dresses today. For instance, a navy tuxedo jacket with black shawl is paired with a camel merino cardigan and pajama pants styled with a foulard silk tuxedo scarf. A deconstructed herringbone topcoat is styled over an argyle sweater and white button down paired with denim, sneakers and a beanie.
For women, the inspiration stems from Gary Winogrand’s “Women are Beautiful”, (1975) photographs of young women living in the city and going about their daily lives. This time, she is filled with vibrant color, mixing traditional tweeds with hot sequins. A tartan coat is paired with a white tuxedo shirt and sequined skirt. Denim culottes are paired with a stripe shirt and an acid rose blazer styled with a butterscotch topper and of course leopard lace-up heels!
