A Negroni Is The Best Cocktail To Drink That It Has Its Own Week To Celebrate – So Here’s How To Drink It
The majestic elixir comprised of three ingredients: Gin, Campari and sweet vermouth , is one of the world’s greatest cocktails. The Negroni, which recently had its 100th birthday, has been on the rise. A mixture that is refreshing- not too boozy, resulting in a balance between sweet and savory, also known as true harmony. It is the perfect pre-dinner cocktail, afternoon sip, or anything in between. The Negroni is a drink for all occasions and any time of day. When Imbibe Magazine launched Negroni Week in 2013 in an effort to raise money for charitable causes around the world, it solidified why Negroni is the best cocktail.
From September 18- 24, bars and restaurants globally will stir classic Negronis and Negroni variations for a cause and show you how to drink it. This year, the event is raising money and awareness for Slow Food, an organization with a mission where everyone can enjoy food and beverage that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet. What also makes a Negroni the best cocktail is its versatility. Different gins and vermouths can modify the taste. Gin can get swapped out for tequila, or bourbon to make a boulevardier. Below are variations of the perfect cocktail to help you enjoy and sip at home or to enjoy at one of the participating bars and restaurants. Cheers!
Boulevardier
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz. Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve 100 Proof Bourbon
- 1 oz. Campari
- 1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
Method:
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir for 15 seconds and strain into a glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
Classic Negroni
Ingredients
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale Bitter
- 1 oz Martini & Rossi Rosso
Method
Add the gin, Martini & Rossi Rosso, and Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale Bitter into a mixing glass with ice and stir for 15 to 20 seconds until well-chilled. Next, strain into rocks glass over fresh ice. Gently squeeze an orange twist or slice over the glass, then add it as a garnish. Serve and enjoy.
Golde Negroni
Ingredients
- 1 oz Martini & Rossi Bianco
- 1 oz gin
- Dash of bitter
- 1 oz topped with lemon juice
Method:
Add the gin, Martini & Rossi Bianco, Bitter, into a mixing glass with ice and stir for 15 to 20 seconds until well-chilled. Next, Strain into rocks glass over fresh ice. Then, gently add lemon juice, and then add lemon twist it as a garnish. Serve and enjoy.
White Negroni
Ingredients
- 1 oz Martini & Rossi Bianco
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz Italicus
Method
Add the gin, Martini & Rossi Bianco and Italicus into a mixing glass with ice and stir for 15 to 20 seconds until well-chilled. Then, strain into rocks glass over fresh ice.
Ultimate Negroni
Ingredients
Method:
Add the gin, Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale Bitter, Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale Rubino, into a mixing glass with ice and stir for 15 to 20 seconds until well-chilled. Then, Strain into rocks glass over fresh ice. Next, gently add orange twist it as a garnish. Serve and enjoy.
Negroni Sbagliato
Ingredients:
- 1 oz. Cinzano Rosso
- 1 oz. Campari
- Top with Cinzano Prosecco
- Garnish: orange slice or twist
Glass: Rocks
Method:
Pour the ingredients directly in a glass filled with fresh ice. Stir and complete with a half-wheel of or twist of orange.
Mezcal Negroni
Ingredients:
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet red Vermouth
Method:
Stir into glass over ice, garnish with an orange peel and serve.
Imperial Boulevardier
Ingredients:
- 1 oz Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve
- .5 oz Sweet Vermouth
- .5 oz Campari
- 2 oz Apple Cider
Garnish: Apple Slice
Method:
Put all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker, stir until chilled, pour into rocks glass with ice cube if desired and top with garnish
Salty Smoked S’mores Boulevardier
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve Bourbon
- 1 oz Campari
- 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
- .5 oz Creme de Cacao
- 3 Dash Chocolate Bitters
- Pinch of Sea Salt
Garnish: Rim side of rocks glass with melted chocolate, before it hardens, roll glass in powdered graham cracker. Garnish with speared smoked marshmallow
Method:
Stir all ingredients with ice. Light a marshmallow on fire, cover with rocks glass to extinguish and capture smoke. Strain cocktail into glass, garnish and serve immediately.
Bittersweet

- 1 oz Mezcal Union Uno infused with strawberries and hibiscus
- 1 oz Dolin Rouge Vermouth
- 1 oz Campari
- 6 drops Black Pepper Tincture
Method:
Pour ingredients in a glass and stir. Garnish with a lime peel.
Negroni on Holiday

- 5 oz Spiced Papaya Puree (papaya, cinnamon, vanilla, black pepper)
- .5 oz Campari
- .25 oz Lime
- .5 oz Sweet Vermouth
- 5 oz Cachaca
Method:
Build ingredients into cocktail glass and serve on crushed ice with lime zest and black pepper.
