The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Is The Biggest Event Of The Year
As far back as I can remember, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was one of the highlights of summer. We learned it actually dates back to the early Sixties! The sale always took place around my birthday so I knew I would at least receive the best birthday gift ever from me every year! Hours were spent combing through the catalog and adding post-it flags on pages featuring fall’s must-haves styles and trends. Let’s face it, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is the biggest happening and the retailer’s only promotion. This year, early access to the exclusive limited supply of goods for cardholders in store and online is held July 14-July 21. The general public will have access beginning Friday, July 22 to August 7. Prices will go up on August 8. One of the reasons this has become a phenomenon is the timing. July is usually a slow month in retail land, when most clients are off basking in the sun somewhere tropical, and stores are filled with racks and racks of clearance goods. But not Nordstrom- New fall merchandise is stocked, folded and ready to sell mostly discounted 30- 40% off the initial price. Nordstrom buyers work closely with designers and brands to curate a select group of items to create a sense of urgency and of course, exclusivity. People actually cut their vacations short for this! If you have ever shopped inside a Nordstrom store, it is quite exciting. Areas are curtained –off for Anniversary-sale merchandise and non-cardholders are not granted access to presale. Just wait until Nordstrom arrives on West 57th Street to experience it as well. Until then, thankfully we have the internet where we can score precious finds like the Stuart Weitzman ‘Hilo” Thigh High Boot, and Theory graphic tweed coat or Burberry Brit quilted hooded jacket with just a click of a button.
