Nanette Lepore Unveils Fall 2014

For fall, fashion designer Nanette Lepore took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade exhibit. Her inspiration came from the valuable exotic fabrics produced across cultures. The embellishments and embroideries of local craftsmen were weaved into something intricately new and modern and handmade in New York. The bold color palette included boysenberry, pastel pink and merlot with grey and black as neutrals.

#NYFW Abstract Emotions with Son Jung Wan Fall 2014

Son Jung Wan Unveiled Fall 2014 Collection

Son Jung Wan Unveiled Fall 2014 Collection

Son Jung Wan’s collection was a mix of cold arctic blue, rich admirable gold, luxurious mid-tone gray, and traditional graceful Ivory. Inspired by abstract expressionist Mark Rothko’s emotional work, Wan wanted to provoke a bevy of emotions with her latest collection. She incorporated Rothko’s blurred color boundaries with unfinished edges and mixed several materials, colorful furs, and metallic details.

The collection started with a take on winter whites with cream-colored cashmere jackets, jumpsuits, coats, and mesh sleeved dresses presented. The story soon unfolded to showcase Wan’s multi-colored furs, which certainly captivated the crowd. A male model walked in a burgundy wool knit sweater with fox neck warmer and sepia pants to the delight of the editor seated next to me. Wan also added a multi-sequined dress with leather waist detail to her line up. The show concluded with a multi-colored fox fur coat over a silk dress.

#NYFW Oversized Outerwear at Zimmermann Fall 2014

New York Fashion Week Preview Of Zimmermann Fall 2014Untitled

New York Fashion Week Preview Of Zimmermann Fall 2014

Inspired by subcultures of the 1950s such as The Teddy Girls, Beatniks, and Sharpies, Zimmermann’s latest collection, Cloud Stompers, balances the line between innocent and defiant. With oversized coats, check prints, and lace, the collection rocks an “Edwardian Dandy meets American Rock-ability” look.

Models strut around the Pavilion with leather bows tied around their necks and hair slick backed and twisted. Most impressive in this collection was the menswear inspired suits and swirling peek-a-boo seams. Also important to note was the lace bodices and black and cream cage skirts.

While the collection lacked the soft airiness of Zimmermann’s previous work, the structured pieces and heavy Keltie handbags were offset by a few softer looks including a bubble knit and a knit mini dress in soft Haze. A lace off-the-shoulder jumpsuit reminded us of days of yore, while several of the racy seams would fit right in on the red carpet at last year’s punk-themed Met Gala.
