New York Fashion Week Preview Of Zimmermann Fall 2014

Inspired by subcultures of the 1950s such as The Teddy Girls, Beatniks, and Sharpies, Zimmermann’s latest collection, Cloud Stompers, balances the line between innocent and defiant. With oversized coats, check prints, and lace, the collection rocks an “Edwardian Dandy meets American Rock-ability” look.

Models strut around the Pavilion with leather bows tied around their necks and hair slick backed and twisted. Most impressive in this collection was the menswear inspired suits and swirling peek-a-boo seams. Also important to note was the lace bodices and black and cream cage skirts.

While the collection lacked the soft airiness of Zimmermann’s previous work, the structured pieces and heavy Keltie handbags were offset by a few softer looks including a bubble knit and a knit mini dress in soft Haze. A lace off-the-shoulder jumpsuit reminded us of days of yore, while several of the racy seams would fit right in on the red carpet at last year’s punk-themed Met Gala.

The designer celebrated her collection at the Diamond Horseshoe, a vaudeville wonder that flourished in Times Square’s theater district in the late 1930s to the early 50’s. The venue recently reopened after being shuttered for over 60 years and was the perfect setting for the presentation with its Old World charm.

The collection was described as sporty glamorous, encompassing a moonbow motif throughout the assortment. Pants were cropped one featured in leather culottes while tops were embellished with stain leaf appliqués- beautiful.

Strong Warrior Women at Carmen Marc Valvo Fall 2014

New York Fashion Week: Carmen Marc Valvo Fall 2014

Inspired by his trip to Istanbul, Carmen’s line evolved into a warrior woman.

His love of the art and culture was apparent in mosaic gunmetal leather pants and riding jackets with mosaic embellishments. The line featured strong lines and lots of texture; black calf hair, metallic brocade fabrics, suede, chiffon, leather, lace and wool gauze were all incorporated into his 41 piece collection.

Mostly black with pops of metalics, oxblood reds, and blues kept the look daring and warrior-esque. The fun was in the details; however, with strips of lace and embellishments refining the look and pulling the collection together.

To compliment the collection, the models’ nails were painted in Morgan Taylor’s Metalling Around, a dark gunmetal gray with great light reflecting quality with “both a strong and yet feminine feel to it.” Hair was pulled into a pony tail wrapped with leather and fastened twice to add a little edge and toughness. For a little extra interest, the hairstyle was completed with faux choppy bangs.
