The Kings Theatre Is The New Destination For Entertainment

Largely known as a movie palace that opened in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn in 1929, the historic Kings Theatre closed its doors in 1977. Now following a $95 million restoration, the Kings Theatre will commence its Inaugural year with a grand opening concert on February 3 starring the legendary Diana Ross.

Formerly known as the Loew’s Kings Theatre, it was part of the five Loew’s ‘Wonder Theatres’ established in New York and New Jersey. They were furnished with full stages and orchestra pits for live stage shows and elaborate choreographed routines that occurred during that time period. The theatre highlighted extravagant designs inspired by grand opera houses and palaces of Europe, such as the Palace of Versailles and the Paris Opera House with high curved ceilings, Corinthian columns, and marble.

The newly restored venue will now become a destination for entertainment. It will also serve as a resource for local art groups and community organizations. Ms. Ross will perform for One Night Only in New York before touring cities including Durham, San Antonio and New Orleans. Additional headlining artists at the Kings Theatre for this year include Sarah McLachlan, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Gladys Knight.
