Stacey Bendet’s Fall 2016 collection for Alice+Olivia paid tribute to the late 1970s art scene in downtown New York. Even though the city was bleak and dangerous, it was rich in culture as the art and music scenes surged. The collection is 70’s rock-infused edge meets geek chic glamour. Silhouettes spanned from bell- bottoms with intricate details, shift dresses, to midi skirts and hot pants. The color palette featured lavish autumnal jewel tones including ruby, dark turquoise, cobalt blue and mustard. Highlights include a leopard fur coat over a floral print dress and thigh high suede boots perhaps on her way to an art opening? Also a tailored yet feminine suiting embellished with owls, and roses styled with a sequined bow-tie blouse imaginably riding the subway to work. We also love the novelty tees including a beaded short sleeve that read, ‘Be Nice or Leave’ which celebrates every women’s power to shine bright in the gritty city. Handbags were color- blocked in suede, and footwear ranged from suede boots to T-strap Mary Janes, which complements the entire look and statement of the collection.
