New York Fashion Week: Jérôme LaMaar

Even the cold couldn’t keep the fashionable crowds away from LaMaar’s presentation at Inglot Studios in Chelsea Market.  The room was filled with insiders admiring the oversized embellishments on this young designer’s clothes.  While this new designer has received favorable reviews, it’s too soon to tell if everything he touches will turn to gold.  We can say though that this structured collection was impressive and dripping in gold accents.

LaMaar got his start in fashion at the early age of 15, interning for Kimora Lee Simmons’ Baby Phat.  Four years later Simmons promoted LaMaar to lead designer. He then studied at FIT and worked with Ralph Rucci before creating his own line.

His pieces include great pleated cropped trousers, cutout and zip-front dresses (allowing you to show a little or a lot of clevage,) and two toned coats and jackets.  To accent the tailored pieces. LaMaar added oversized crystal buttons, and huge gold bracelets and necklaces.

We loved the opulence in the room with the golden branches and gilded brows on the models, which lent a little more luxury to the look as well as an almost kabuki type feel.  The lighter, but still angled eyebrows, softened up the models as did the mascara on the lower lashes and rosy cheeks.
