A New Limited Edition Amber Lager Is Released In Honor Of Prohibition’s Repeal

American-style lager Budweiser, is bringing excitement to beer lovers by introducing a new brew. The 1933 Repeal Reserve is an Amber Lager that pays homage to the repeal of Prohibition, the ruling that turned this nation dry for thirteen years. On December 5, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legalization of alcohol back into law. The recipe for this brew actually dates back to the pre-Prohibition but was only available to a few close friends and locals until now. It has a heavier taste profile compared to what is found on the market today, and is similar to what would have been sold post-Repeal.

It highlights a light, hoppy aroma and a rich caramel-malt taste with a 6.1 % ABV, higher than the original Budweiser. The packaging is reminiscent of the earlier style of beers in a vintage font and stubby bottle. To mark the occasion, a launch party was held at the Classic Car Club  Manhattan. It was transformed into a 1930’s era fete with authentic vintage cars displayed onsite, while a live jazz band performed Billie Holiday ballads for guests.

“We are excited to mark the upcoming holiday season and the anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition with this new brew based on a forgotten recipe,” mentioned Ricardo Marques, vice president, Budweiser. “While Budweiser Repeal Reserve is a great tasting Amber Lager, it also tells the story of an important part of our history and gives reason for celebration.” So let’s raise a glass or bottle to America’s determination through Prohibition.  Cheers!
