And How To Pack When Biking To Amazing Places Like A Farm Ride

The farm ride highlights pedaling past farms, dairy cows, rivers, tobacco sheds and exploring towns that were established in the 1700s.  This three -day excursion involves sightseeing through beautiful college towns, rich scenery and fresh local food.   In addition to biking, there are also areas to rent canoes, paddleboards and kayaks to explore the beauty and calmness of Connecticut River. Since this journey involves driving from NYC with a bike, packing is key.

Over the past few years, I have almost mastered this skill, which took a lot of trial and error, and some mistakes along the way.  Packing can be challenging, however the more often you do something, the less complicated it becomes. So here is a list of things that made our bike weekend unspoiled and stress free.

Velocio Ultralight Jersey and Signature Jersey

The worse feeling is riding in the hot summer months in uncomfortable and unbreathable apparel.  This lightweight jersey was remarkably cool.  It features tiny pinholes for total air absorbency, reflective logos and trim for visibility and a tailored fit.

The Men’s Relaxed Fit Jersey involves a tailored look yet features added width through the shoulder, chest and torso.  It also highlights wicking capabilities and water resistant zippered pockets to protect valuables.

Velocio Signature Fly Bib Short

This comfortable bib provided easy on and easy off access that did not involve the removal of a jersey.  The zipper is located in the back to aid in restroom stops.

Velocio Grid Dot Signature Socks

These lightweight socks were designed for summer riding. The mesh forefoot offers added breathability creating a happy, dry ride.

Velocio Race Glove

Velocio’s race glove was made for high performances but comfortable enough for all rides and has a sleek minimalistic design and easy to slide on and off.

Icebreaker Cool- Lite Sphere Short Sleeve

This is a summertime wardrobe staple.     It features Cool-Lite fabric which combines lightweight natural performance fibers and premium merino wool and TENCEL to keep you cool, even in hot and humid conditions. It evaporates heat away as well as resists odor.  One of the days during our ride involved a tremendous downpour of rain. This tee kept me warm and dry when others were drenched and cold.

Columbia Outdry Ex Featherweight Shell Jacket

Rule number 1 of packing: Check the weather forecast of the destination.  Yes, it rained, but guess who stayed dry?  This waterproof shell is breathable and is fully seam sealed- so no water will get in.  It also highlights a bonded visor and an adjustable hood and reflectors for visibility.

North St. Handlebar Bag

When biking, having quick access to your stuff is crucial.  This Pioneer 9 pack bag provided an easy method to retrieve the essentials. It highlights a removable belt so it can also be worn as a fanny pack or hip pouch.  In addition, it can be worn as clutch, or used as a standalone Dopp kit, and is waterproof.  It also features a zipper pocket in the front that provides fast access to your phone and wallet.

Backpack Panniers

Carrying a suitcase was not an option on this trip.  Even a weekend tote is not ideal if traveling with bike.  So this pannier worked like a charm.  It features plenty of room to pack your belongings, including a sleeve for your laptop and reflective trim for night visibility.  Attach to your bike and head to your destination, or convert it into a comfy backpack for your next adventure.  It is waterproof, offers easy access to external pockets and a side sleeve to store a U-lock or water bottle.

Daypack

For day trips, we used the Daypack from North St. Bags.  The daypack featured a slim profile instead of  carrying a bulky backpack all day.  An exterior pocket highlights a taped zipper and is lined to protect items from outside weather.  The interior involves a Velcro divisional organizer that can be swapped out for other Velcro in bag pocket options.

Ursa Major Face Wipes

The individual face wipes by Ursa Major are fantastic. In addition to cleaning your skin, it also soothes and hydrates.  Consider it the ideal touch up tool  after a ride, or when you’re on the road and in need of a refresh. Here’s a tip: Stash a few in the refrigerator for an extra energizing boost.

Giesswein Vent Slipper

Rule number 2 of packing: Carry a second pair of shoes.   Since it rained during one of the days of our bike excursion, my sneakers needed time to dry.  These cozy slip- ons provided comfort as well as warmth – qualities a flip flop alone cannot provide.  The rugged rubber outsoles make these suitable enough to wear outdoors.  Hello off-duty gear! The footbed molds to your unique foot shape over time, ensuring a customized fit after continued wear.

Para’kito Mosquito Repellent Sport Band

In order to avoid being interrupted by mosquitoes, I wore the Para’kito sport band. This waterproof bug repellent works in all climate zones. It can be worn on your wrist or ankle and features reflective stripes for visibility.  Para’kito is sourced from natural essential oils and is DEET-Free.

Athletic Fuel

Pure maple syrup offers a multitude of benefits not found in other sweeteners and gels. It contains calcium, riboflavin, zinc and potassium, which provides sustained energy, muscle recovery and prevents cramping.  Untapped highlights all natural athletic fuel items for on the go including flavored waffles like raspberry and chocolate It was the perfect snack when we were in need for fuel.

The Coffee Untapped was a favorite as it involved real coffee infused into pure Vermont maple syrup.  The electrolytes and minerals of the pure maple syrup along with 27mg of caffeine were certainly the jolt needed for the early morning call time before breakfast.
