A Night Of Ballet For The Stars Of Today Meet The Stars of Tomorrow Gala

The spring season welcomed ballet lovers to the Youth America Grand Prix Gala (YAGP) held at Lincoln Center. Amy Astley, Samantha Boardman-Rosen, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Lesley Thompson Vecsler chaired the event while CBS’s Keltie Knight served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s performances at the David H. Koch Theater, followed by dinner.

Young performers from the ages of 9 to 19 danced alongside stars of today including Svetlana Lunkina and Evan McKie (National Ballet of Canada), Tamara Rojo and Cesar Corrales (English National Ballet), Skylar Brandt and Gabe Stone Shayer (American Ballet Theatre), and Tiler Peck and Zachary Catazaro (New York City Ballet). Youth America Grand Prix is noted as the world’s largest global network of dance, that connects classically-trained students, teachers, schools and companies with audiences that share the same passion for the art of dance.

Since its inception in 1999, over 80,000 young dancers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds have taken part in YAGP’s workshops and have earned over $3 million in scholarships to leading dance institutes. Now that the future of funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Edowment for the Humanities may be at risk, it is imperative that we play a role in supporting the stars of today and tomorrow.  More than 350 YAGP alumni currently dance at companies including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet.
