On June 28th Bike New York hosted their annual Discover Hudson Valley Tour. Despite the consistent rain throughout the day cyclists were treated to a scenic ride with the option of riding 15, 33, 55, 75 and 100 miles. All routes began and finished at Victor Waryas Park along the Hudson River, which is a five-minute jaunt from the Poughkeepsie train station. This convenient location and the MTA suspending their bike permit requirements and restrictions on the total number of bikes permitted on trains enabled many riders from New York City to participate very easily.

This rider opted to ride 55 miles, which took us over the scenic Walkway Over the Hudson (the world’s longest elevated non vehicular bridge) twice and onto the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. Additionally, we traversed on picturesque Ulster and Dutchess County roads with rolling hills that passed horse and cattle farms. The ride offered well-spaced and well-stocked rest stop areas enabling riders to refuel with complementary snacks and refreshments.

Bike New York is well known for putting on the annual Five Borough Bike Tour, which is the largest ride in the United States. All proceeds from the Hudson Valley ride as well as all Bike New York rides go towards funding their free bike educational programs.
